Made slowly, made to last
INTAJ pieces are carved by hand in Saharanpur, a town in northern India where woodworking has been passed from hand to hand for generations. We work the way the craft always has β a single block of seasoned wood, a chisel, and the patience to let the grain lead.
Where our wood comes from
We use legally procured Sheesham rosewood, mango, and teak from managed North Indian plantations. Off-cuts from carving are kept and reused rather than thrown away, and every piece is finished with a natural wax instead of a synthetic lacquer β so the wood can be cared for and kept for years.
Made to order, not to waste
Most of what we make is carved to order. That means a little more time before your piece ships, and far less sitting in a warehouse. Because each one is shaped by hand, expect small natural variations in grain and tone β the mark of something genuinely made, not stamped out.
The people who make it
Behind every INTAJ piece is a small collective of master carvers. Fair, steady work keeps a centuries-old craft alive and puts a real personβs hands behind the object in your home.
